Andy Crockett has been a tennis player since the age of 5, competing in the Yorkshire and York Leagues for many years, and is based in Wigginton, York.
Andy has been coaching since September 2010 and has been fully qualified and licensed through the LTA (Lawn Tennis Association) since July 2011. He has a full DBS check and a current first aid certificate. He has also attended courses in Child Protection, Disability Awareness, Cardio Tennis, Tennis for Large Groups, Schools Coaching and Equity in Coaching.
He is the Head Coach at Rowntree Park and also coaches Adult and Family Sessions at Wigginton Tennis Club and Special Olympics for People with a Learning Disability.
Andy is about to start running the Junior Programme on a Saturday morning at York University and will also be coaching part time at David Lloyd York.
He runs a schools coaching programme offering many primary school sessions, runs the North Yorkshire School Games Finals for North Yorkshire Sports and has started the first Blind Tennis Coaching Sessions to take place in North Yorkshire.
Andy is also working with numerous successful Learning Disability players, many of whom have succeeded at National Level, plus Laura Campbell, a double Gold medallist at the Special Olympic World Games in Los Angeles in 2015. For more info on Special Olympics City Of York (SOCOY) click here.
From the early days of coaching 20 pupils he now brings the joy of tennis to about 400 people on a weekly basis.
Andy was voted Yorkshire Disability Sports Coach of the Year in 2015 and also Sports Coach of the Year in the Active York Sports Awards in 2016.
In addition to this many of our players have won awards in Disability Sport and the York Disability Tennis Network was voted the LTA Disability Programme Award 2017 for Yorkshire and are currently shortlisted in the Northern Region of the Award.
